Felt Used Lately?

The dictionary defines used as a verb:
a. The act of using; the application or employment of something for a purpose
b. The condition or fact of being used
c. The permission, privilege, or benefit of using something
I’m not sure how it all happened, not sure why I thought it would be a good idea to experience camp, but there I was, surrounded by 69 jr high kids and a handful of staff. Talk about stretching. It was painful that first night and day. I had thoughts of never doing this again! As a matter of fact, at bedtime after the first full day, trying to get the girls to settle down for lights out, I knew I was never doing this again! I felt used for sure, and not the good kind of used. But, as the days went on and I learned about the lives of the kids entrusted to my care for the week, I experienced God’s love and grace, and forgiveness once again. I fell in love with some of those kids, touched by their stories, their desire to follow God’s will for their lives and their desire to serve. I was drawn into the presence of God each morning at devotion time and found when I just prayed “use me today to touch the lives of these kids” I was used. I was the dorm mom for the week…the enforcer of rules…so as you might guess, not the most popular of the staff, but there were moments that made the week worth it all. When one of the girls would come up with tears in her eyes and say “could I talk to you?” Yup, being used is a good feeling. Have you availed yourself to God lately? Just let Him know you’re available and accept what he asks you to do. You’ll be used. And it’ll feel good.
